Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) announces with great concern the fact that the organization which is most exposed to threats, attacks and intimidation has, along with some other colleagues from the civil society, received today a signed threatening letter.
Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) from Belgrade is warning the public, and most of all the organizers and those who politically support the anti-government protests that spread throughout Serbia under the slogan #1in5million and pretext of fight against violence and for better electoral conditions, of a very recent visit to Moscow by the Armed Forces of Serbia Union (Vojni sindikat Srbije-VSS) that recently formally joined protests. VSS is still headed by Novica Antic, who recently was stripped of his rank, due to flagrant breach of Serbian laws related to political activities of active servicemen.
Given the complex political and security situation in which negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina are happening on the one hand, and the demonstrations by a part of the opposition under the slogans #1in5million and #StopTheBloodyShirts that are allegedly held also because of the failings in the rule of law on the other, CEAS is inviting the democratic public in Serbia, members of the international community from the West, local reporters as well as correspondents of the western media, both independent and public, to pay attention to the statement by Rada Trajkovic, who has recently become very present in certain media outlets.
CEAS warns of dangerous, false and tendentious actions by Novica Antic and the Army of Serbia Trade Union
The Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) is expressing grave concern because of systematic, tendentiously false statements by the president of the Army of Serbia Trade Union Novica Antic that are violating the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Serbia and the principle of democratic control over the armed forces, and of representative parliamentarianism itself, which has one of the key roles in the democratic oversight of the security system, as well as the president who is and should be a politician, primarily because of possible security implications of the actions by the Army of Serbia Trade Union that he is heading, to which Serbian public is not reacting despite Antic’s open coup mongering that he justifies by his arbitrary assessment of alleged “betrayal” in relation to Kosovo. The other day Antic openly said, without hesitation: “Serbia is no one’s ancestral heritage. We have given oath to this country, to its flag and its Constitution. But not to its politicians.”
Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) from Belgrade considers that today’s decision of the provisional institutions in Pristina to pass the laws on the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) comes at a very difficult moment for the Republic of Serbia and its citizens. CEAS welcomes the reserved rhetoric of the relevant state institutions in these especially difficult local and international circumstances.
