Energetska sigurnost i ostvarivanje hrvatskih energetskih projekata bile su glavne teme razgovora zamjenika pomoćnika državnog sekretara  za energetsku diplomaciju SAD-a Amosa Hochsteina i hrvatskog ministra privrede  Ivana Vrdoljaka. Hochstein je rekao da je interes SAD-a podržati Hrvatsku u ostvarivanju energetske sigurnosti i nezavisnosti te nastaviti raditi s Hrvatskom na  daljnjem razvoju istraživanja i eksploatacije nafte i plina na moru i kopnu.

In reacting to Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine, President Obama has reassured exposed NATO members Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia of firm U.S. support, but he has shown little inclination to show needed leadership by putting another integral element of NATO policy on the agenda of September’s Cardiff summit : enlargement of the alliance. Obama’s hesitation, which has allowed NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to put off the question of enlargement until next year, is unwise and unnecessary.

Viši savjetnik Centra za transatlantske donose na Univerzitetu Džon Hopkins, Majkl Helcel u autorskom tekstu za Vašington post kaže da bi pristupanje Crne Gore i Makedonije NATO-u bio opipljiv dokaz da Moskva ne vrši skriveni pritisak i ima veto nad priširenjem Alijanse. Obamina administracija, podvlači Helcel u svojoj kolumni, još uvijek ima vremena da preispita odluku i ubijedi evropske saveznike da pristanu da se Crna Gora pridruži alijansi i izvrše pritisak kako bi Grčka i Makedonija postigle dogovor oko imena.
